Erik “Camo” Linker’s Ultra 4 Buggy
This Ultra 4 Buggy #4407 is owned by Erik “Camo” Linker of Pirate 4×4.com. Camo started this buggy 4 years ago as an X chassis…. but better! X Chassis are designed as an F-Toy, or Formula Toy, but Camo being Camo, he wanted push the limits. This buggy was always invisioned as a Pre-Runner/Racer/Trail Rig… basically your all around rig. Mimicing styling from a desert Class 1, it was set up to go FAST…sort of. The one thing it was lacking was POWER!!!! A V6 was just not enough. Camo came to us looking for more power, and boy did we give it to him! Installing an LS2, Custom Ground Cam and a F.A.S.T. intake, boy did he get more power. That was just the beginning….
Since we were a new shop, and wanted to get our name into the racing scene, we made a deal to use 4407 in the 2010 King of the Hammers. The ink on the deal hardly dry, what better way to up the ante than give away the driver’s seat! On came the “MFS-Pirate 4×4.com Driver’s Essay Contest”. We asked Pirate 4×4 users to write a 500 word or less essay as to why they should be the driver for the 2010 King of the Hammers. There were a lot of great essays, but it came down to 5. So the Pirate 4×4 users voted, and John “BellyDoc” Goodman won! John had to show up on the lake bed with his Safety gear, and be ready to race. Mind you John had zero experience as a racer, some experience as a rock crawler, and had never been to the King of the Hammers before. John took it very serious though. He showed up early, picking the brain of anybody that would talk to him, and familiarized himself with the car. After a 14 hour race, John “Belly Doc” Goodman and Co-Driver Bob Roggy took the #4407 car to the finish, at 28th place. You couldn’t have asked for a better outcome!
